OK, so maybe I’m a bit over the top and sensitive.  But I got another message on one of the 5 trillion social networks I’m affiliated with that ticked me off.  And it’s not the first time I’ve gotten one of these, and it’s not the first time I’ve wanted to respond this way.  Maybe it was the glass of cheap cherry wine or the fact that it’s late and I’m getting tired, but this time I felt the urge to shit on someone, and did…

Every now and then I get these, and get irritated.  Some chick sent me a message and all it says is this… and…. I quote….

” cops r HOT!!!!!!!”

Nothing else.  No, “you seam like an interesting and intelligent person that is well rounded and motivated towards the betterment of yourself and society as a whole.” No, ” I’m a biology major that breeds championship quality parakeets, likes moonlit walks on the beach, cliff diving and chess.”   Just ” cops r HOT!!!!!!! “  I mean really?  Am I supposed to respond with a marriage proposal?  And this isn’t some teeny bopper either [shit i've gotten old], this bimbo is 34 years old!

Well she set me off.  And while I usually just mutter to myself and delete, this time I replied.

Do tell, was I too Oren?  This is what I wrote:

You obviously don’t actually know any cops….

Cops are angry, cynical and narrow minded people.  Most drink too much, don’t discuss their feelings and don’t want to hear your opinion.  The typical street cop has, in his/her first 5 years, seen more death, carnage, violence and act of hate that any human being ever should.  And those images haunts them till their death. That is why a large amount of officers die by suicide.  Many become alcoholics to try and drink away the memories.  Cops have to see horrific and unthinkable things done to small children, then go home to their own small children and realize they can’t be with them at all times to prevent the same thing from happening to their own.  Cops get to see the evil of the world first hand and up close.  Cops don’t trust easily and they have a hard time sympathizing with your pathetic excuses for why it’s OK for you to do it (speed, drive reckless, whatever) but not everyone else. Cops have to learn to keep their emotions in check and that often leads to a self programing that leaves the person devoid of all emotion, including the ability to truly love others.  Cops cheat and sleep around.  Cops have a wicked, twisted, strange and often unkind sense of humor.  Cops are misunderstood and mistreated on a regular basis.  Cops have to help people who don’t deserve to be helped, and then smile about it.  Cops carry heavy personal burdens.  Cops do it because they took an oath, giving their word and placing their honor on the line, to die if needed for anyone… even the scumbags that don’t deserve saving.

The uniform may be hot, but that’s not who we are.  We’re just people.  We’re brothers and sisters, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters.  We’re just people, trying to do a job which we can’t exactly remember why we wanted it to begin with.  Most of us don’t care much for being stereotyped and treated like meat.  At least not a REAL COP.
